As a consultant on governance and strategic issues, Lyn works with boards of directors in organizations including regional and community agencies, professional and industry associations, charities, and regulatory colleges helping leaders be effective in their fields (health care, social and community services, organized real estate, supply chain management, and education etc.).
As a director herself, Lyn has served as a member of boards of directors ranging from health to international to community-based, from start-up to established. She currently serves on the board of The Scarborough Hospital. She is also a member of the Not for Profit Organizations Task Force of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Lyn has been both a Chief Executive Officer and a Chief Operating Officer working closely with Boards in two major charities in Canada. Her work with Board leadership at the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) when she was COO resulted in recognition of that organization with the 2005 Conference Board of Canada/Spencer Stuart National Award in Governance. This award singled CDA out for its bold and innovative solution that broke new ground in the search for governance excellence. Adjudicators recognized this transformation of CDA's governance structure taking the board to a new level, "as significant, challenging, and transferable, and well tested both financially and strategically." Lyn was the primary driver and facilitator of this innovation working closely with the Chair, the Board and "champions" of change within CDA.
Lyn has a Master's Degree from the University of New Brunswick focusing on organizational development and is a graduate of the Advanced Strategy Executive Program of the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. She has earned the Chartered Director professional designation awarded through The Directors College, a curriculum for director education offered by McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business and The Conference Board of Canada. She has been trained in the Balanced Scorecard approach by the Robert Kaplan and David Norton-led Balanced Scorecard Collaborative. Lyn helps organizations across Canada, and most recently in Hong Kong, translate strategy into operational terms determining how success will be measured. She is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and a regular faculty member at Canadian Society of Association Executives conferences offering sessions on governance, strategy and organizational accountability.
Her passion is motivating and assisting leaders to achieve the potential of their mandates and the aspirations of their stakeholders. She believes that boards must lead the way with solid governance, create a shared vision and lead change.
